not bad ... not bad
ReplyHmmm...I like the concept of the up and down arrows, and the fact that they form a lion's head is interesting. And the mark is very visually appealing. But I have a few questions:*1) Why a lion's head? I know that the bull and the bear are symbolic animal representations of finance, but is a lion particularly significant to the foreign exchange world?*2) The *idea* behind representing the ever-changing fluctuation of the market via up %26 down arrows demonstrates that you're thinking, but I'm not sure companies associated with finance want to acknowledge down-trends in their marks. Seems to me that they would only want to accentuate the positive aspects, i.e., making money when the market is good.*3) The X. Not sure what this represents. Does it stand for %22exchange%22? Again, a big X in a mark that is associated with money might not be the way to go. The X symbol is mostly associated with bad things.*4) I love your type. The M might be a little awkward, but I totally see why it looks that way.*Overall, I think you're close in many ways, but I feel like there's a bit more you should explore with this one.
ReplyThe mark is really nice, but the type is a bit too much, imo. I especially dislike the M.
Replyjon, i absolutely love your astute eye. I'll go through each point you raised*1) The lions head was totally unintentional - i never saw it until someone spotted it on dribbble. Now i can't see anything but the lions head. It bugged me at the start as i didn't see the relevance, but It received some positive feedback from creatives so i thought i might run with it anyway as an option. I don't know... pride, security, strength... meh (too contrived)!*2) I'm not too phased by this as it's foreign exchange, which is different to the stock market. Currencies going up or down can be a positive thing depending on which side your trading from.*3) Interesting point this one. the X is meant to represent the X from FX but i guess without the F it's inconsequential.*4) probably where my main concerns lie and it's mainly with that M (i'm hearing you Lecart).*I didn't have the luxury of time with this assignment (shouldn't use that as an excuse), but all these things i'll definitely take on board and work on as i too am not 100%25 with this bad boy yet. *Thank you for taking the time to comment Jon - as i have mentioned before... big fan of your comments!
