Looks like you did away with the pot. I liked the pot, but guess it wasn't totally necessary. I do remember the top rim seemed odd and disconnected. Here the plant itself could be simplified. The 3D effect doesn't add anything, and I think it actually hinders the form. It starts to look less like a DNA strand. Plus the horizontal bars are askew, making it look like a rickety ladder. It looks like you drew the leaves (which should be pointing up instead of down) using geometry, why not do that with the top part of the plant?
So when you mean simplify the forms do you mean making it flat with no 3d effect what so ever, and use geometery to make the the top of the plant and the dna strand. I'll see what i can do.
I get what you are saying about the ladder effect, but thats mimicking dna strands which twist around the form, so the visual of the riccky ladder is actually correct here if he unskews them it will look more like a ladder and not dna strand i think
^ But I'm not really getting a twisting effect. It just looks like the whole head is rotated, and the ladder "rungs" aren't horizontal, so they look askew.
hmmm i am seeing it lol, is it because you are seeing it flat and not able to pull the depth from it? I see it as a plat quarter rotated to me on the left side and seeing it like that the dna makes sense.
the strange part is if you google dna strands you will see them straight across and skewed http://tinyurl.com/qgqgwzb
Yea I thought the only way to make it look like DNA is to have that 3D effect on the logo. If I place it flat I don't know if it be recognized like DNA anymore
Finished , Love how it turned out, I noticed as well the logo before didn't feel like a cohesive piece, so i added in the pot again and put in a circle.
geometrically this is much better but im not sold on the helix bands being straight, also i wouldn't remove the petal detail, maybe it moves to the right petal. but at any rate solid work
It is cool to see your progression and working with feedback. Cool results!
At first I saw a wishbone. I see what you are trying to do, but the DNA isn't quite coming through. The circle doesn't really add in my opinion, there is not enough harmony with the shape of your illustration. If you do keep the circle, why not try cutting the graphic out of the circle rather than multiple colors. Or just try making your background green. Then find a typeface that emphasizes the qualities of your icon. For example, with a circle icon, find a font with a circular O. Good work!
Lets Discuss
I really like the concept.
ReplyThis has a lot of room to be simplified and polished, but it's a fun concept.
Replytell me how i could do that samdemastrie?

Replydo you mind trying one and uploading it as a variation to this one?
ReplyYea. I'm gonna try it for sure.

Would it be better to return to the original one.
Replythis is so weird that everybody sees something different, I thought i researched enough what a dna strip looked like , this is intriguing.
ReplyKnocked it out of the park. Congrats
Replythanks EvolveRed
ReplyAlso thank you for my first gallery spot, made my day
