I have a suggestion that *may* improve this concept. Lose the leaf and continue the sun to make a complete circle, then add a coffee mug handle to the side. It will look like above view of the mug and still convey the sense of solar energy. Don't know if it helps at all. Just an observation.
No offense, but if the designer takes your suggestion, this will begin to look like all the other coffee logos that have been inspired after http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/6707 And there are quite a few.
Ocularink was saying that IF you took Thrasher317's suggestion then you might end up with a resemblance. This is a great execution, and i love the color mood.
