This is the 4-color process version of the new logo for Mueller Motorsports. The design was inspired by heraldic crests and automotive logos. My goal was to design a logo that would show the history of my family name but still work as an emblem on a racecar and not feel out of place.
The top half of the crest represents the origins of our family name from the Bavarian region of Germany. The sky blue checkered patten is the official flag of Bavaria, but it also works well as a representation of auto racing.
The red/white stripes on the bottom half represent us as Americans and although the blue on top isn't the same as what you'd find on Old Glory, it still helps make a loose connection to the American flag.
I designed the typeface myself for this logo to get the simple yet aggressive look I was searching for. The outside shape combines elements of the American and Bavarian crests, only with a slightly more modern and angular style.
