Hmmm...this is interesting. I think it's really clever once one knows that it's for an observatory, but without that knowledge, I think it would be too ambiguous for most people to get. It *is* interesting that the shape kinda forms an abstract A shape. And I like your understated type. Feels right for a scientific operation.**I think that the size of the icon is fine - in terms of icon-to-type ratio - but because of your particular placement of it, you've got a kind of %22shark fin%22 thing happening if you squint your eyes a bit (or look at it from a distance), and that throws off the proportions. With this particular icon placement, I would make the icon half as tall.**Overall, I really like the concept. I realize it's an unused proposal, but if you were still working on this for your client, I'd suggest you play with it just a bit more. I feel like it's riiiiiiiight on the edge of something really great.
