I'll comment if you return the favor :)**I really like the idea, it's nice. The illustration of the boy needs a little bit of work to tie it into the type better. For starters, I would thicken up the stroke around his head (as well as his eyes and mouth) to match the lineweight of the type. Next, I would simplify the newspaper hat. I think there's just too much detail on it. I think everyone knows what the shape of a newspaper hat is, so recognizability shouldn't be a problem if it was all gray. Or maybe one side could be gray and the other side could be lighter gray to give the impression of light.
%5Eyup i'd agree. It's gotta go one way or the other, depending on the client. Either lighthearted, in which case the type needs to go and be replaced with something softer and more fluid, probably hand-written. If this is the case, the face could go a little more whimsical, too, having some finer details and texture, like the hat. Or it needs to become more mainstream, which would be what dtf suggested with giving the character more weight through thicker outlining strokes.
