Description:
The Green Party of Maryland asked us to redesign their logo, after learning about the confederate roots in the Maryland flag. Their logo originally contained the Crosslands banner, but they decided against using it further and asked us to redesign.
Instead, we chose to use an oak leaf in the center of the mark.
The White Oak leaf depicted on the Maryland Green Party logo traces its lineage to the Maryland state tree. The Wye Oak is the most famous White Oak in Maryland, which stood for around 500 years; and points to the legacy this land has before Maryland was Maryland.
The tree also became a turning point for how the state saw conservation and forestry, and an entire state park was created around the tree. Though taken down by a storm in 2002, the valiant efforts of Maryland have let the Wye Oak live in on cloned saplings everywhere.
The Maryland Green Party is Maryland’s ballot-qualified progressive party. We are committed to the values of ecology, social justice, grassroots democracy, and non-violence. We run candidates at the local, state, and federal levels.
