This is my very first attempt at a logo with my new Microsoft Expression Design 2 software. I have never been schooled in graphic design, so I am open to any and all critique. I would like to work with C4 someday but this is all I have to work with, for the time being. Anyone else out there use this software? I wonder how it measures up with C4?

Hi Maximus,..**Since this is your first logo design ever.. I wont be hard on you. Im not sure if MS expression is what you should be using.. there is GIMP, Inkscape, Sumo, etc.. that are all open source, all probably a hundred times better than the software your using right now. But none of these compare to any adobe (makers of CS programs) software or corel software.**Now about your logo, the colors are absolutely horrible.. - the concept is very hard to see, especially since the type work and layout of the logo is very weird. Theres not a natural flow to it. I guess the guy that's hiding behind the %22shields?%22 is the guy that's being protected? It looks like you also used the font Stencil,.. which is a big no no, and you over complicated the %22lock%22 as the D in defense.. which has been done by other designers.**I would definitely recommend looking at the top designs on this site, .. try to see that simple works,.. over complicated definitely doesn't. Lateral thinking works, .. not going for the obvious,.. hidden images, subtlety, etc.. these work.**Here are some resources that might help you:**Logodesignlove.com*Faveup.com*Logooftheday.com*Logomoose.com*Logofaves.com*Logogala.com*Logoorange.com*Davidairey.com**Good luck, my email is [email protected] - if you ever want / need more feedback, shoot me an email. ReplyWhat's up Sean. %0D*%0D*I really appreciate your honesty and will take your advice to heart. I've been a fan of the site for several weeks and admire everyone's work here.%0D*%0D*I've been trying to decide if I want to go back to school to hone my graphic art skills, but have a hard time wanting to go back to school and abandone the family for a hobby. For now I'll check out the sites you recommended and keep studying the talent on these sites to build my skills and develop any %22eye%22 for this medium. See ya around.
