Description:
I was going for a rorschach test type of a logo for this design. I wanted to get the "what do you see" scenario going, unfortunately, it was a bit of a backfire.
A few of the responses I received:
• I see two people sitting having tea.
• I see two chairs and an umbrella.
• I see two people with their feet in a pool with towels on their laps.
So, what do you see in the image? Keep reading if you want to know what it was, feel free to post your comments as to what you saw first.

It is actually a skull with two pistols pointing down, handles out.

Well besides clearly seing a Skull, specially when looking at the logo in a smaller size or from distance, i saw 2 people and an umbrella. I just could not figure out what they were doing, but i never saw the pistols
Replyworking with negative space can be hit or miss. for best results, the main part of the image should be in the positive space, and the secondary part should be in the negative space. I presume the pistols are the main and the skull the secondary. I did see the skull pretty much right off, but the pistols are not easily seen without pointing it out. part of that is their positioning. a gun pointing left or right is much easier to see than one pointing down. I think if you worked on this, you could really make it work, whether my advice helps or not. there is potential here.
ReplyThanks for the comments guys. The skull is supposed to be the primary read and the pistols secondary. We (the client and I) were toying with the idea of the Rorschach test idea. The approved design is in my gallery as FPS Arcade but I don't think they ended up opening the company to the public as intended. Anyway, little side track.
ReplyI actually presented a few versions of this, one had the pistole across the face, an angle, just the hilt, and a few others, they, as well as myself, liked this one because it did give the response of some people seeing happiness while others see death.
Overall, when most people saw an umbrella we decided to move on to the next. I was so close to the project that I never saw the umbrella myself until it was pointed out. It was a very fun design though!
