Best one yet by far IMO.

jmutton said on Dec. 03 '09

agreed!

lundeja said on Dec. 03 '09

Love it, this is what I was picturing when I read Mike's previous comments.

cerise said on Dec. 03 '09

Thank .... for that

JoePrince said on Dec. 03 '09

I'd say you have a winner here with this one Anthony. Only critique, and it's a small one. The L looks a little thinner than the A. Might want to make them the same thickness. Other than that, looks wonderful!

epsilon said on Dec. 03 '09

It's a great mark, but unassisted I would read it as AV.

janzabransky said on Dec. 04 '09

I read it AL, I think there is no problem with legibility. Really good monogram, this!

Yglo said on Dec. 04 '09

Good mark :)

lefty said on Dec. 04 '09

very powerful mark!! Good work!!

fanego said on Dec. 04 '09

I read AL! Better than the other ones!

j-CAZ said on Dec. 04 '09

Yes, this one wins. Personally though, I don't like the green. Only a preference thing.

Thrasher317 said on Dec. 04 '09

Great job! I would move the name down a bit and scale the width to match. Other that I think you got it!

absoludicrous said on Dec. 04 '09

Thanks to everyone for the comments; very appreciated. Especially Jared and Mike for helping me out, and get me thinking a step further.

mfrank said on Dec. 04 '09

Congrats on the new personal logo. It's a goodie!

jmutton said on Dec. 04 '09

This is looking pretty sexy in black. Very much made me start working on my own!

absoludicrous said on Dec. 04 '09

Jase

mfrank said on Dec. 04 '09

Hey Tony...curious if you tried making the mark a ton smaller. Maybe reducing the mark so the black A is the size of the L. Just thought it would ad dimension. Let me know!

absoludicrous said on Dec. 04 '09

Updated, and re sized for Frank.

mfrank said on Dec. 04 '09

^what do you think? I personally don't mind either/or. I'm the only oddball out of all the comments so I'm maybe the other way is better? Your logo..your call.

absoludicrous said on Dec. 04 '09

I thin I prefer the tagline (name) wider than the mark, it adds something, not sure what, but I like how it looks better.

JoePrince said on Dec. 04 '09

I don't think you need the type. It should be a monogram on it's own. Your call though.

mfrank said on Dec. 04 '09

One last thing and I'll shut up.
Try reducing the width of the left and right stems of your A just a hair. Overall it should help balance things with your type.

Thanks for letting me recommend.

logomotive said on Dec. 04 '09

Hey congrats on Gallery bro.

cerise said on Dec. 04 '09

Well I'll be...it's even better....well done

eziemac said on Dec. 05 '09

nice work, man, well deserved on the gallery entry :)

OcularInk said on Dec. 05 '09

You did it, bud!! Congrats on the gallery add too.

mfrank said on Dec. 05 '09

kudos tony!

absoludicrous said on Dec. 05 '09

Thanks to everyone for the comments/congrats. Took me a while, by that I mean, since my first design class in high school, to find a monogram that incorporates my initials well.

LP has really helped with inspiration, and drive to become a better designer...Matt, Mike, and Jared really helped groove this thing. Thx.

questdome said on Dec. 05 '09

very nice :) like it a lot

derek kimball said on Dec. 05 '09

I love simple designs like this one. Nice job.

absoludicrous said on Dec. 05 '09

Ion, Derek, thanks!

andreiu said on Dec. 05 '09

very good indeed

lundeja said on Dec. 05 '09

Truly an iconic logo. You're making me a little jealous these days.

brandsimplicity said on Dec. 05 '09

Congrats on the gallery, this is sweet!

absoludicrous said on Dec. 05 '09

Thanks Andrei, and Fabian!

Jared, iconic, jealous, come on man, really? You're making me blush like a little school girl. Haha, just kidding man, glad you're digging my work...Really big thanks for the help with this though, you helped me head in the right direction with this logo.

Thank you Mr. Sanderson.

raja said on Dec. 10 '09

lol @ your description.. I had a similar idea (presented only) http://rajasandhu.com/images/logos/advantage_solutions_logo.gif but love yours!

absoludicrous said on Dec. 13 '09

^ haha, yeah, I think this was the 7th attempt uploaded that week, felt a bit overbearing. Glad you like it Raja... I think your work is rad.

keithlaub said on Jan. 09 '10

I like the negative space "L" and how it gives it a certain dynamism. Good job.

zephyr said on Jan. 09 '10

Great job! Congrats!

You may have an admirer...

JoePrince said on Jan. 18 '10

I saw that too. Can't comment though because it's red flagged...

absoludicrous said on Jan. 18 '10

Thanks Hi, JP alluded to that a bit earlier. I guess I really don't care enough to email the designer. Thanks though.

cresk said on Feb. 02 '10

Simply clever, great design..

jn said on Feb. 02 '10

This reminds me of the A in EA games!

absoludicrous said on Feb. 03 '10

Thanks for bringing this up. JoePrince told me about this some time ago. I hadn't noticed it prior. This was a well thought out, long process that came from many trial and error designs, eventually something clicked and I arrived at this solution.

I've been thinking about it a lot lately and I will admit they are very very similar. However, I don't think anyone sees an AL combo in the EA sports logo.

Furthermore, the logos are non-competing, and I think they can stand separate. I always refer to David Airey's blog post here and am reminded that similar, even identical logos can stand apart, and be used, and create no issues. Usually because they're non-competing industries.

If there was a huge uproar regarding this, I suppose I might re-consider my point of view and seek out a different design, but I don't think that's going t happen.

kathariney said on Feb. 03 '10

it's hard not to love this one indeed.

jn said on Feb. 03 '10

Just pointing it out! :)

absoludicrous said on Feb. 03 '10

Hey, no problem, I appreciate that.

ClimaxDesigns said on Feb. 03 '10

the ea logo isnt trying to form an L in the negative space of the A jn.

firebrand said on Mar. 08 '10

Do you think this is a cause for concern Tony?

http://www.kaplusa.com/work/ascendium.shtml

mcdseven said on Mar. 08 '10

^Ouch... now if Tonys was created before that version, they should be concerned. If Tony's was created afterwards well personally I would change it as they are identical, its horrible when this happens, as Aireys article pointed out... its damn near hard to avoid situations like this.

firebrand said on Mar. 08 '10

It is hard to avoid situations like this, as I recently found with an EZ monogram.

AnthonyLane said on Mar. 08 '10

Well, seeing as they're nearly identical, I'd have to say I suppose. Something I hate having to admit, especially given the fact that my logo strives to accomplish two things, define an A, and and L.

Furthermore, after doing some research, I cannot locate a web presence for this company which is extremely odd given their "size". Perhaps they've gone under, been bought up, changed names and do not exist. Nothing more than a linkdin page. Seems odd.

I'm in the process of emailing KA A to see what we can do about this.

Thanks for making me aware Roy, even though news like this sucks.

AnthonyLane said on Mar. 08 '10

Just as I suspected, the brand was purchased by a larger firm and the identity, while still owned, doesn't exist. Here is an email I received from the designing firm (KA A)

"Well Anthony. It looks like your logo was posted to LogoPond in December of 2009. The Ascendium identity was design and launched on Feb 7th of 2008. It was uploaded to LogoLounge around the same time.

Ascendium was purchased last year by another large consulting firm and the brand name was retired when it was folded into the new brand. The still own the brand mark and the trade mark, so there is the possibility of conflict in the future - but I wouldn't sweat it."

kaimere said on Mar. 08 '10

yikes that sucks http://www.linkedin.com/companies/ascendium-inc. is about all there is on it ... more of a direct cntact possibly here

mcdseven said on Mar. 08 '10

^thats a pity as they are both nice. Still Anthony, you could try a different style 'A' with the same concept...

AnthonyLane said on Mar. 08 '10

Not a good morning, 5 rejected concepts, then this. I'm going to take a day or two and evaluate this situation. Being that the company is now defunct, and technically doesn't exist in that brand, I think I am ok.

Anyone that knows me would know what a WIP this was, and how long it took me to finally achieve something I liked. Additionally, I would never jeopardize my reputation, credibility or image by ripping a piece of work. If there is massive fuss about this, I'll have to change it. I'd like some time to think though.

Lecart said on Mar. 08 '10

I know exactly how you feel. However, i wouldn't change it. It's a very strong mark, with a solid base and reason behind it (the L makes the difference here). I don't think anyone could believe this was a ripoff, that's out of the question. That's my 2 cents, it's up to you - I do believe you kinda made a presence for yourself with this mark around the web. Maybe more pond opinions on this.

mcdseven said on Mar. 08 '10

^Contact them again and ask them if you can buy the trademark? Explain your situation, of course if its mad money let them sing for it, check out the legality of using the mark regardless. Don't think anyone here would think/accuse you you of ripping it of, its just one of those things that happen.

Have had a couple of rejections from Logonest and for some reason it stings more than a client so I know how you are feeling!

AnthonyLane said on Mar. 08 '10

I will be making attempts to get into contact with the company that bought up the Ascendium company. I can't really forsee an issue, but you never know, and it's good to hear it from the horses mouth. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks!

firebrand said on Mar. 08 '10

Sorry to further compound your bad day, Tony.

Rokac said on Apr. 21 '10

Anthony congrats on the LogoLounge featuring your work!
I'm going to use your cool AL monogram to congrats all of the "Logoponders" on their work being featured in LL6! It's really nice to be around so many talented people from which I have learned so much.
Cheers guys!

AnthonyLane said on Apr. 21 '10

Thanks Roko! I as well have learned a LOT since joining in late August. What a great group of people to learn from, be inspired by, and socialize with. I've learned more about logo design (specifically) here than I have elsewhere. it tremendous.

logopunk said on May. 07 '10

Kept seeing this it in the comments! Really like it, a bit like EA sports but hardly an issue and completely different messages.

AnthonyLane said on May. 07 '10

^ Hey man, appreciate the kind words.

logopunk said on May. 10 '10

NP :)

arpad said on May. 11 '10

What a simple and stunning monogram. Now I want to do something like this! eheh Good job man!

AnthonyLane said on May. 11 '10

^ Thanks arpad, I appreciate it my man!

AnthonyLane said on May. 21 '10

New version of my website up and running on Cargo Collective. Check it out, www.012485.com

j-CAZ said on May. 21 '10

Hey Anthony, great site. If I can make one comment. IMO the type is hard to read against the site background. It hurt my eyes a bit. Other than that, looks great. PEACE!

AnthonyLane said on May. 21 '10

Thanks bud, I've been losing sleep over trying to make a decision on how I want the BG to look. It's been a fight.

j-CAZ said on May. 21 '10

Ah, don't stress yourself. It'll come to you. Go do something strange and uncomfortable then go back to it.

ethereal said on May. 21 '10

Nice, Tony, looks great. Must feel good to do a refresh. Now if I could only finish my own.

JoePrince said on May. 21 '10

Nice site dude. You could probably do a cool monogram with TL too...ever explored that option. Not to say I don't love your AL mono.

AnthonyLane said on May. 21 '10

I like that j-CAZ.

Thanks Sean, my previous site was nothing but a one page throw together. Hopefully this will convey a better image. I've been waiting for yours for a while now.

Thank you Senior Principe. TL could provide for some nice solutions. How much do you charge for logo?

Lecart said on May. 21 '10

Noticed your site for a few days now, first impression was that the bg was a bit distracting for your solid work, eventually found it interesting. CargoCollective seems like a great portfolio platform, signed in too.

ethereal said on May. 21 '10

^^ Problem is I believe I'm ditching Ethereal for just my name now and have been working on a new mark. So Ethereal may be done. I've been busy lately and can't get to it but am trying!

raja said on May. 22 '10

If your work is simple so should should be your site design

break it down to only what is required and let your work do the talking

no design is the new design

raja said on May. 22 '10

also your logo is very strong and extremely well don

- think of a way of getting out there more (not on the site), try to get it trademarked in the bigger countries - I would love for you to loose the associations made with many other logos that look similar as you are in the line of work that requires strict differentiation...it's just a genuine concern for your future

I like it! It so simple and plain, but effective!

davishama said on Jul. 23 '10

So cool!

fauzone said on Jul. 24 '10

Yup! Everybody love it.

I also have a logo with the same concept.
