I think this works. I don't know much about science, so I'm not sure if the three dots have any special meaning or significance besides forming an abstract V, but I like it.

It's simple, and in the mind of the casual viewer, fits the subject perfectly. Whether you want to see only an abstract V (cutting edge), or cell mytosis orliquid droplets (research), it just fits.
