Description: Minnesota recently updated their helmet logo and uniform set for the first time in their franchise history. This concept works on bringing the remaining mark up to date as well.

I don't quite understand why you think that this would bring the mark up to date. I also don't know if you should be using a PRO teams mark as an example of your work, that is unless you designed the actual viking also.

I understand that it's different but why take someone else's original work and slightly tweak it and call it your concept? If you want to gain work be original. This is false presentation in my eyes.

slightly tweak ? Simply because the driving concept behind it is not mine, does not mean this doesn't display my ability to illustrate a meaningful and appropriate logo for an audience, and in a style as best suited for the client. Please tell me again that I'm not really doing work when these teams hire me (or anyone else for that matter) to help them rebrand while retaining their history.

And please be sure to do it when you're popping out logos through your logo template creator ... that cookie cutter plugin works great doesn't it. Please don't sit in a tower making criticisms such as THAT while you churn out your work at $300/per logo.

Hey, all I can say if you designed your other stuff your one helluva Illustrator. My point was I don't see these as being far from the original to call your own concept.BTW My logos are FAR from cookie cutter IMO.

wow. looks like I got in on a good one here. I agree with logomotive on 2 things. This isn't different enough to call your own and his logos are not cookie cutter. I don't think he's saying your a fake, humanot, he just questioning the originality. His point is that a logo is more than an illustration and type, it's a concept. And that's what isn't really yours. You have great illustration skills.

i have to disagree logomotive and kgb - whilst it is true that the concept is not humanot's - the illustration, stylistic approach and execution is. this is a brilliant example of a logo refresh, acknowledging and respecting the inherent qualities, historical value and brand assets and working to update, refine and bring new focus to the brand. you do beautiful elegant work humanot, as i am sure you are aware - great execution. i wouldn't be too worried about justifying your own work practices to others. keep up the good work.

As a vikings fan, I think I like the original logo a lot better. As a designer I think this logo is really not an update to the original as it is the same concept, which in a lot of cases your forced to follow. However I just don't think that your version (a tired, old viking) does what the original version (a strong, young viking) does for the team's image. When updating a logo, most people think of upgrade and I am not sure you've achieved that. I don't mean to offend you, you're a skilled illustrator but illustration is just part of the equation. -sao

thanks for the kind words dale, i'd like to throw all those compliments right back at you, as you're work is quite brilliant as well. and sao, your criticism is totally fair. this was one of two directions for this project ... the other stayed more true to the original Viking ... feel free to check it out here: http://humanot.com/c/sports/i/vikings_1.jpg These were part of an exploration in which I created ranges of variation ... I opted to show off this one here, for the very reason that it was a further departure from the original. I'd love to hear what you think of this one, both as a fan and a designer.

there is a whole subset to logo design. call it logo re-design if you will and sister design for sub-logos using main logo as inspiration, but it takes as much skill to stay true to an original idea while updating it for current audiences as it does to design a concept of your own. and in all honesty, most concepts are the brain child of your client, not you, so if you come up with an original design for your client's concept, is that not similar?
