Minnesota recently updated their helmet logo and uniform set for the first time in their franchise history. This concept works on bringing the remaining mark up to date as well.

Replythere is a whole subset to logo design. call it logo re-design if you will and sister design for sub-logos using main logo as inspiration, but it takes as much skill to stay true to an original idea while updating it for current audiences as it does to design a concept of your own. and in all honesty, most concepts are the brain child of your client, not you, so if you come up with an original design for your client's concept, is that not similar?
