- This is the newest version of my phoenix logo that I created a really long time ago. I put it in a shield because it really seemed more fitting. If I could have designed a sword, I would have.

This is a very nice illustration. But this isn't "Illustration Pond" it's LOGO Pond.
A logo has to convey an image to a name to help build a brand. This is just an illustration of a shield. It conveys nothing to me. In other words, it's nothing more than a nifty piece of artwork.
I don't think I'm being insulting at all. I think it's a valid critique. If you don't agree, that's your opinion. But that doesn't make my opinion any less valid, and it certainly doesn't make it an insult just because you don't agree with it.

In my book, identity (logo) design is all about capturing the essence of an 'entity' visually, and communicating that through an idea that balances FORM and FUNCTION in a relevant, unique, and memorable way. As far as 'corporate identity' design, it says nothing in any 'functional' kind of way to me. I wouldn't even see a bird unless 'phoenix' was near the mark. As far as 'creative identity'? Yeah. It works for a creative individual. Good job Bryan! I too love LogoPond! I wish I knew about it sooner.
