About the k, you are right and I did present some samples but some how it make the impact weaker especially seen at small size... so we decided to go with the simple solution.
Thanks to everyone with your input... I agree there is a lot of free play in terms of composition for this kind of logo...
I am not sure it's the best solution, maybe there is smarter one, but I think it translate well the "elevation" and "lightness" without giving out on presence.

What's the idea behind the a's? Maybe you could combine the second 'a' with the 'k' to preserve a consistent kerning.
