Description:
The CRC is a racing center in south germany. The blue curve in the background is based on a very characteristic part of their racetrack. Beside this version shown here, there is one containing only the CRC and the racetrack.

There is a copyright on that car isn't there?
ReplyShure there is. But a court decision in germany says that it is legal for a club to use a picture of a car in their logo if their is no financial interest in it. (and there isn't in this particular case)%3Cbr%3EThey argued, that the benefits the company gains through the promotion of their product and the exposure to their fans is greater then the fact that the copyright is breached.%3Cbr%3EIt probably would be different, if the actuall use of the location would cost more then just the club dues.

ReplySo, it's a copyright violation if a particular make of car is recognizable in a logo? In Germany? Interesting as I'm not aware of any law like that in the U.S. I do know if a particular driver is portrayed in an artwork, that they must approve the piece before it is sold commercially especially with lithographs and promotional items.**Anyway, the illustration style is clean, however for a racing club I would think a more dynamic angle or racing action would be even better.
ReplyActually this is the only design including a car I've made so far. So i was only concerned about this particular case and don't know for sure about the general law. Especially in germany, since I'm swiss.**Thanks for the thumbs up.
