Description: The Bank Bridge is the narrowest bridge in St Petersburg being only 1.85m wide and spans the Griboedova Canal at the bend in the canal and was built in 1826. It is so named from the nearby building that used to hold the state bank. The four magnificent Griffins (winged lions) hold the bridge up and were created by Pavel Sokolov (1764-1835). Griffins are mythical creatures who are said to be guardians of treasure, and in this case, they are guarding one of the greatest treasures of Europe - the city of St Petersburg.
