That's right. Chinese (Han/Kanji) characters are based on shape and form. The early forms are actually pictures of the actual objects. And they evolved to today's traditional and simplified characters.
To me Chinese calligraphy is so much more fascinating than western typography, though I love both.
The characters read "Yu" (fish) and "Mu" (eyes).
