Hello, deiv. Obviously I don't know what the creative brief specified and maybe this fits perfectly, but those colors don't convey royalty, in my very humble opinion. Anyway, the shape is very nice.
^ I have to fourth that. I see too many gimmicky logos, not properly catering to the right audience.That is the part of logo design which is hardest. Sure funny,clever, yada yada but you have have to make the clever ones work too for the right target audience. That's why this business is so challenging.
I think club needs just as much emphasis.. if it was something less important like "golf attire" it'd work well underneath.. but IMO club is just as important as the other two words.
Great mark! Agree with prev. comments about "club" emphasizing, even maybe all in one line with the "Royal Golf" at the same size could work the best IMO. I guess you have the version with mark on the left of the type explored allready, because I can imagine that option like very nice looking one. But less "royal" I guess...
