Yes, this is a redesign concept for UPC (the company that bertje mentioned). I think the original UPC logo and the NXP logo has more in common than in my version.

Ah yes, it can be found among the 2006 Trends article from LogoLounge ('Overlays'). And also the eBay logo uses this overlapping effect.
