you know this is a cool symbol but the font being extended like that jsut doesnt make sense to me. in terms of the combination of the icon, the icon is right angled and ccompact with nice detail but the font looks stretched out for no reason

and for those of you commenting on it, this logo has been up for a long time now. Joomla is an open-source CMS that is steadily gaining popularity

I am the designer of this logo. As for the typeface, it wouldn't have been my first choice but it was a font that the projects development team had already been using and they wanted to stick with it. My original winning idea used the same font but the text was placed to the left side of the icon and the "J" was lowercase. I had also made the font a little bolder to match the thickness of the "J's" in the icon a little closer. To me, my original was a little better design, but the development team wanted a few changes which led to the logo above. As much as I disagreed with them and tried to make a point of why the original version was a stronger concept the client is ultimately always right. When it comes down to it, the clients gets what the client wants.

@ jayred i think we all know what Joomla is, and that has not bearing on the comments here. thats almost like saying, "hey guys this is nike's logo, so..." =)

@ urquharttownson yeah, i understand there is only so much explaining you can do before it becomes "pretentious", so yeah in the end the one paying the bills will be right.

It's a nice logo, dont get me wrong, text just looks funny to me.
