I think with any type of crest you either need depth or a clear separation of elements- whether its through the use of highlights or outlines.. I think in this case you should try building it in black and white because it will force you to add little details to separate the markers from the mask, and that would give you a stronger result.. but thats just my thought.. respect to ya- paintball's one of my favorite sports..
