this is a nice logo the words fifty-one are a bit hard to read but i think simply bolding them a bit would fix that.

while i like it im not sure of the 51l combo, i think the 1 gets a bit lost in the mix. not sure how you would fix that(if it needs fixing at all)

Darrel said on Dec. 10 '06

I think if the '1' has the lower left serif put back it'd be enough.

Classy. I like.

OcularInk said on Dec. 10 '06

I'm seeing a 1 in the negative space between the 5 and the L. It would have been nice if that had come through more. Even so, I like this one.

i saw that also, but figured it was just coincidense. because the bottom isnt closed out, which i think would make that negative space pop more if that was the intended placement, i think because the way the 5 and l touch and the kind of serif that is on this font, makes the eye fight between the negative space and the actual space, so pulling out the 1 either way is too difficult.

ClimaxDesigns said on Dec. 10 '06

P.S. wow my wife was looking over my shoulder and she said the entire thing looks like a one. if you squit and ignore the negative space it does look like a giant 1, nice, wonder if all this was on purpose or purely accidental.

Sisudesigns said on Dec. 11 '06

on purpose. I spent alot of time coming up with that inverted shape combining letterform and numbers.

I've always liked these kinds of logos where multiple letters are combined to create a single mark through the use of negative space, linking, etc. I think the strongest examples in this vein shared one thing: consistency of the letterforms in terms of line weight, style, treatment, etc. You could simply say that the letterforms are all from the same font family. The only problem I have with this logo is that the 5,1, and L all lack consistency in this respect. The 5 feels much thicker and fuller than the L which looks anemic in comparison. The L has a serif, but it's not similar to the negative spacec 1 and the 5 doesn't have any serifs at all. Those kinds of inconsistencies are making the logo feel just a bit "off." It's a wonderful idea, it just needs another rev or two to pull it all together.

I like this mark a lot. After reading the previous comments and seeing the whole "1" shape I like it even more.

The one thing that isn't quite settling with me is the "L". Could it be more like the "L" in "Lincoln"? The current "L" doesn't seem strong enough in comparison to the other characters.

Great job!

Beautiful rendering! Perfect!

I think it looks great, did not take me long to figure things out (extra 1 also). It has a nice feel to it. I can see things that I might have tried but does not mean it would work or look any better. I'm sure you've been through the testing with it and I think it looks good. What kind of food do they serve?

ClimaxDesigns said on Dec. 11 '06

"What kind of food do they serve?" i would bet steak, and if im right hes done just that much better with the logo.

Sisudesigns said on Dec. 12 '06

High end stuff Mix of stuff, I know they have some steaks.. I dont know the final menu till it opens though. I cant wait to see the place open.

I love the whole combo of letters/numbers. The only thing bugging me is the grungy box. Normally I like the grunge look and 'roughed-up' shapes, but for this high-end restaurant I don't like it as much. I think it would look better if the box was clean and shrunk down to fit the shapes snugger.

It's still rad though, even with the grunge, I think the 51L combo thing is genius!

Very thought provoking - does the job of a logo. This is a success

kick ass man, kick ass.

OcularInk said on Dec. 12 '06

The more and more I study this, the more I like it. Once again, great job with this one!!

pritchett.nick said on Dec. 14 '06

i really REALLY like this. i don't think it's an issue if the people can't SEE 51L. although i do see it in the symbol. to me it's more of a mark. i can picture the sign on the front of the building or whatever...ya...i think it works REALLY well. good job man. great colors too!

Very elegant - perfect for a restaurant identity.

It's pretty good, their are some kerning issues in the Lincoln, Like the letter spacing between the 1st "L & I" are close together. Then again with the "L & N" at the end.

Also I ONLY read it as "5L" I didn't realize it was really 51 Lincoln until I read your brief summery next to the logo.
