i actually thought whatever it was was pointing down because of the opening side, also the font could be a bit stronger, its kinda plain when compared to the mark

The type was a big issue when designing this. I think the opinions were about 50/50, so I decided to go for a subtle font to draw attention to the mark. But you're right, a stronger font, carefully chosen, could enhance the whole.
As for the mark, you're right there, too, some saw an arrow pointing down at first.
