Not sure what "G" in your description stands for (a gangster ?), but the mark is both clever and very well executed.

I think he likes it to stand for Gangster, yes. You'd kind of have to meet him, I guess. For perspective, his blog is mostly about hip hop and it is titled "Digger"(Digger is a nickname his parents gave him, not a reference to the social media website) and subtitled "True Life: I'm So Hood".

Strong mark and type treatment.
Is the D centered over the logotype, it seems slightly to the left.
Or does it work optically better this way.
