This is definitely the stronger of the two - great colors and balance. I would suggest going a little easier on the textures and effects, as this could be a very nice logo in its simpler form. As someone told me once "just because you know a cool effect doesn't mean you have to use it" :)

The coffee cup/foam/mountain icon is killer although the red star on the cup makes it look/feel Russian. The font choice is way too klunky though. And the background textures need to go.

I'm really digging the name of the coffee shop too.

irish - I checked out your site. GREAT portfolio of logos! I've seen some of them on logopond in the past. You are a true talent. And I much prefer the version of "Higher Grounds" that's on your site. Nice work.
