As just a pure mark, this is great. Interested to see how you would play with the text on this one.

ClimaxDesigns said on Sep. 12 '06

i thought this was a chinese character when i first saw it, but now i clearly see the imagery.

This is excellent.

I wish designers wouldn't use the stock brushes in illustrator. Is this guy running with the cross on his back?

ClimaxDesigns said on Sep. 13 '06

whats wrong with using the tools provided? i got that this was a person weighted down by the cross on his back, as per the story of 'Jesus carries the cross'. while it is reasonable assumption that this person is running, i dont think his target audience will confuse this in the least.

NOMADESIGN said on Sep. 13 '06

Well... KGB is right... illustrator brushes are over used now... my only excuse is that I made this logo 5 years ago.

Jesus is climbing carrying the cross... I do not believe he was running on flat terrain... maybe he could... but apparently he was not too hurry to be crucified.

ClimaxDesigns said on Sep. 13 '06

no i dont mean it, like they aren't, i jsut dont understand why you would not use a tool provided for you to create something unique, is it the fault of the brush or the designer using it?

NOMADESIGN said on Sep. 13 '06

Yes the tool itself no problem... I continue to use it... but it needs some customisation of the brush itself... otherwise everybody is doing the same 3 digital brush effect from illustrator present all the time... and that start to show.

CDN said on Sep. 15 '06

The bottom line is.. You should've customized the brush style. I agree with KGB. default brushes are whored to the MAX :).

So yea, avoid uses def.. too noticable.

trixia said on Sep. 20 '06

I like it but first I saw it I thought it was something Japanesse, so I think it could be confuse the mix...japanesse with cristianism..mmmm

NOMADESIGN said on Sep. 20 '06

well... they have "hidden christians"... kakure kurishtan. But I do not think the rendering has to do with the stereotypical cultural background of a religion. The brush effect itself reffer to handmade>human and the basic gesture of leaving a mark with some energy.

Fantastic as it is. Maybe add some colour contrast between christ/the cross to help with the chinese character. Also maybe move the right arm down so its less in a sprinting pose?

Great work in my mind. The fact that you made it 5 years ago, and that people are still liking it should stand for something. Any logo should be able to stand the test of time, otherwise it runs the risk of becoming outdated. This logo works well with the subject matter, and the Illustrator brush effect works well too. At least it doesn't look like a web 2.0 logo like alot of things do these days.

reminds me of this site's logo:

NOMADESIGN said on Nov. 29 '06

Did not know that one... very similar concept indeed. Thanks

Web Design Wales said on Mar. 15 '07

At first glance I thought it was a Chinese letter. Interesting work...

kpita said on Jun. 20 '08

Is this the same: http://forthefameofhisname.org

NOMADESIGN said on Jun. 21 '08

Wow!!... thank you Kpita, I did not know this one... I will check.

ClimaxDesigns said on Jun. 21 '08

and there in lies the lesson of using default Ill strokes :D

AlexWende said on Jun. 22 '08

If u look at the site the copyright says 2008... it seems to me they like your logo very much... :D

NOMADESIGN said on Jun. 25 '08

To ClimaxDesigns>
I got the critic... but this logo is now 7 years old and yes the default strokes just appeared in Illustrator.
The interesting point here is the concept of the logo more than the rendering of it.
While a logo rendering can be copied over and over, the concept can't as in this example it become too obvious.
I tried to contact these guys but so far no reply.
I will take more serious action and see where it goes.

ClimaxDesigns said on Jun. 25 '08

yeah all signs on the surface point to them having copied your mark here. i just know that when you do get a hold of someone that previous comment will no doubt come up as for the actually rendering, the concept however i believe you can prove without a shadow of doubt, merely your posting it here in 06 (wow) will serve as a reference for any legal action.

I would argue that conceptually you can run into totally oblivious replicas, but you are right in this particular instance its far too obvious.

NOMADESIGN said on Jun. 26 '08

ClimaxDesigns> I agree. I also have many other proof online and offline, but Logopond provides a real good creative rights protection... including the fact that members tells you who is copying what. That is great.

In recent months I received request from another religious group in Europe to use this symbol... I do not know what's happening, why everybody suddenly in 2008 want to have this particular mark.
