It seems a bit cartoony for rum. I think it would be perfect for a kids drink. It's a great illustration and logo, I'm just not sure it has the right look for the demo.

I see your point KGB, but really I don't think because it's for an alcoholic beverage company, it has to be too serious. Look at Captain Morgan.

I also disagree with KGB. Who I normally agree with. :) With the advent of playfulness of the Anime scene in American adults and the Adultswim focus on adult themed cartoons I think it would work. Another thing to note is an emerging product will not have "Older" people as early adopters of a new product. However time andtime again we have seen the "Younger" of audiences be earlier adopters.Text messaging, ipods, etc. should be noted here. Who backs this research? AdAge.

Regarding the cartoon style, I think its just what make this logo special, its an original approach, cartoons for adults.
