i'm just amateur designer. your critiques are really shooting my head and wake me up from my sleep. Maybe if you know a little part of my brain, your head will explode

bujang_keparat said on Feb. 21 '08

Correct me if I mistaken, is it a solar flare? Nice concept...

ClimaxDesigns said on Feb. 21 '08

the type is awesome, but i think you need to lose the white blow on the red part

gthobbs said on Feb. 22 '08

bujang: it's a lens flare that's seen in cinematography when light refracts within the camera lens. The concept was the potential stored in the projected light in the cinema.

ClimaxDesigns said on Jul. 24 '08

wow i was at the movies today and saw this logo in a commercial and i was blown away animated its supposed to be a lens flare the type you see coming from the movie camera if you pass by it, in fact in the little animated skit where they advertise getting popcorn with the little film guy jumping off the box you can see this visual affect i wonder if that is there you got the inspiration for it, having seen it in motion i now understand the need for the glow and love this logo nice work

gthobbs said on Jul. 25 '08

Hey thanks Climax / clash / nima. And yes Climax, that's exactly the inspiration. The literal cinematic lens flare you speak of AND the potential content delivered in that light to the big screen.

And if you guys are seeing this in theatre...you're quite probably also hearing my voice on some of those spots.

ClimaxDesigns said on Jul. 25 '08

"you're quite probably also hearing my voice on some of those spots." word

gthobbs said on Jul. 25 '08

Thanks for the gallery climax. (I always really liked this logo but I guess understanding the context is what makes it work)

yurko said on Jul. 26 '08

too much blur. I'm not sure for type...

gthobbs said on Jul. 30 '08

Seems to be rather polarizing.

hindmarshdesign said on Jul. 30 '08

I'd like to see it in context. Its really growing on me.

gthobbs said on Jul. 31 '08

Well hindmarsh, it looks best when seen in context in 70% of cinemas across the country. But for some reason I can't quite recall, I'm thinking you are not in this country yeah? So it can also be seen if you noodle around www.fathomevents.com.

@clashmore: I know! I think it was early on before I knew what the buttons were for.

hindmarshdesign said on Jul. 31 '08

Correct, I'm not in "this country" (I'm assuming USA?). My "this country" is Australia :)
Haha....noodle around. I love it!

gthobbs said on Aug. 03 '08

Then get to noodlin'.

khansa said on Aug. 18 '08

like it but without that white glow ..

OcularInk said on Dec. 16 '08

Saw this on the big screen just a couple of weeks ago. Looks great, Glen!

LoGoBoom said on Dec. 16 '08

Thanks Kevin! I produced the spot you saw.

logomotive said on Jan. 11 '09

Yeah took the kids out last night to see Marley and Me and must saw it looks even better on the Big screen, that and the First Look logo. I told my kids, yeah that's one of my buddies that designed that.

LoGoBoom said on Jan. 11 '09

That's right buddy! And if it was the "Beyond the Secret" promo about the 3 women...it was my voice as well.

P.S. I cried at Marley & Me.

logomotive said on Jan. 11 '09

And if it was the "Beyond the Secret" promo about the 3 women...it was my voice as well.

I told you, you were sexy. :-)

logomotive said on Jan. 11 '09

Yeah, I tried covering up the tears at Marley and Me. my little 8 year old girl and the boy kept looking at me like "DAd are you crying?"

LoGoBoom said on Jan. 11 '09

I just told my 8 year old daughter that I got popcorn salt in my eye.

LoGoBoom said on Jan. 11 '09

see this new at the movies all the time. Damn nice work, Glen.
Or maybe I should say, mr. hobbs. :)

logoboom said on Apr. 01 '10

Thanks Mikey! You hear me too. I do a lot of the Fathom voice over.

ajacoub said on May. 27 '11

Nice, the type here is "Blur" ?

ClimaxDesigns said on May. 27 '11

Every time i go to the movies i want to tap someone in the theater and say " hey i know who designed that logo. Its on my site!" I get goose bumps every time i see it, still.

logoboom said on Jun. 15 '11

@ajacoub: actually the font is stretched Smoothplate. Although we have recently updated the brand with a new font.

@climax: Thanks bud! Your watching our FirstLook show. I did that logo too:

Just a simple type execution but I do like the subtle "ones" incorporated. My 3D animators really made it look cool though.
