I think you all are reading too much into the 8 or oct meaning 8, I think its more that octave has to do with 'height' or rather pitch ( 8 notes above or below another note) and is usually in reference to 'high' pitch with is 'above' most others.

I guess I got carried away with all the octopuses. Not to say that it isn't an 8 of course!
saw the eight right away, then had no problems reading the logo at all! nice. On climax's take, well done man, now that i read his, and look at it again, i can see the "8" almost as notes on a music sheet.
yeah, now that i keep staring at it and seeing more comments on the visual number 8, i would like to hear what the client thinks, or the designers thoughts behind it, because we are all kinda guessing right now.
im sure the client loved it, but if the average joe reads the 8 like we are, are they going to be left with questioning what the 8 represents, does the 8 represent anything in this setting? it seems to be getting undue import i think which in the long run can actually hinder a brand. its a human resource "company that focuses on helping employees reach their full potential ", i get that, the relationship between octave the meaning of the word and what they do is clear, but will people get hung up on it having something to do with 8 of something.
would be cool if the company had 8 rules that they operated by, or steps to becoming a better worker, to leverage the reference to the 8 if they picked this identity to server their brand.
Hi Guys! Thanks for all the comments. To get back to Climax - The original inspiration to the client was the movie "As it is in Heaven" wich is a bout a composer who brings together a group of very different people to help them reach their full potential and together they form this amazing choir. So we went with music. As Climax suggested there are 8 Key points that affect your ability and your potential with other people. So 8 does hold key. About the colour scheme, classical music and note music traditionally in black and white. Also piano Keys.
