I think the font (gatn) either gives it a childs look or a shriller look. If that makes sense. Could go for something more modern, if you're going for a 'newer' look.

When I look at this, I see "Goth" both in the actual word and the type face. A little too "Halloween" for a Baptist Church. I'd re-work this to make it seem more inviting, and ditch the typeface all together.

Agreed... and thanks for the comments... After looking at this again it doesn't quite work. I'm taking the cross and re-working the type.
